Lazy Hazy Summer, a Time to Make New Memories

Summer may be half over, but there is still plenty of time to get out, have fun and make new memories. This summer Entertainment Guide offers a a variety of fun things to do for you, and the whole family. Enjoy!

Palm Springs Gets Chill with a New Pro Hockey Arena

Ice hockey in the desert? Brilliant!

Hockey is one of the most exciting family-fun sporting events there is, and putting a 10,000 seat ice arena in downtown Palm Springs is sheer genius.

According to the LA Times, on June 26, The Oak View Group and the Agua Caliente tribe announced plans to spend $250 million on an ice arena that will become home to an expansion NHL Seattle team, in 2021.

Oak View Chief Executive Tim Leiweke is expecting the venue to draw from 8,500 to 10,000 fans a game, and sell out most of the time.  He should know, Leiweke was the former president of AEG, the company that owns the Kings. Together with the Agua Caliente tribe, masters of casino and resort entertainment, this new venue will also feature concerts and festivals, inside and outside in an open-air concourse.

The hockey arena will surely draw Canadian and Pac West snowbirds and tourists during the winter high season, adding millions to the local economy.  But, we are the real winners, we get to experience an action packed cool winter sport in the heat of the desert.
