With Coachella Fest and Stage Coach over, high season for us desert dwellers is just getting started. Now that the crowds are gone, its time to grab your friends and head out for a season of Hot Entertainment!

Coachella and Stage Coach may signal the end of the high season for groupies and sightseers, but for us year-round desert dwellers, it’s just the beginning.  Below is a sampling of all the exciting shows, concerts and talent that is available to us during May and June. Classic Black and White Film Noir, To-Die-For!

Palm Springs is the epicenter of some of the world’s largest and most esteemed annual Film Festivals,   and, the Arthur Lyons’ Fill Noir Festival is right up there with the best of them.  Fans of the genre arrive days in advance, settle into their lodging and jump right in to the many festivities.

You’re Invited! May 9, Opening Night Cake and Champagne Celebration 

This year, the Film Noir Festival celebrates its twentieth year, and everyone is invited May 9, to join in the opening night celebration. Arrive around 6:30 pm for cake and champagne!

Founded in 2000 by Arthur Lyons, the late mystery author and Palm Springs community leader, the popular Film Noir festival includes an eclectic mixture of prestigious and obscure black and white “B” movies from the classic film noir period. The Festival is known for unearthing and screening rare films, restored classics, and for the special appearances of the stars that were in them.

Around the Valley

ARTHUR LYONS FILM NOIR FESTIVAL / May 9–12, 7:30 pm. Filmmakers of the 1940s and ’50s had a thing for pairing cynical investigators with not-so-virtuous women in crime-focused melodramas. Get your fill as Palm Springs Cultural Center hosts four days of screenings.

DESERT'S 1ST ANNUAL LIVEWELL FESTIVAL’s “Run of the Desert Charities.” / May 18, 8 am – 1 pm, at Palm Desert Civic Center Park The 5K run-walk unites charities across the desert in an event that promises to bring fundraising and awareness for all the charities involved.

•  STAR PARTY/ May 11, 8 PM-10 PM. Families can enjoy a “sky tour” courtesy of telescopes and giant binoculars at the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument.

•  PALM SPRINGS VILLAGEFEST/ Thu. May, 9, 16, 23, 30, 6:00 PM – 10 PM; June 6, 13, 20, 27, 7 PM -10 PM, FREE ADMISSION. Downtown Palm Springs, 101 S. Palm Canyon. Check out the downtown businesses with BOLT (Businesses Open Late Thursday) signs in their window.  Villagefest offers great street entertainment in the heart of beautiful downtown Palm Springs. Browse more than 200 booths. 

•  COLLEGE OF THE DESERT STREET FAIR, EVERY SAT. & SUN. 7 AM- NOON. 43500 Monterey Avenue, Palm Desert. Merchandise and services for all ages and any budget, the Street Fair offers more than 300 merchants, artists, Farmer’s Market, entertainment, food, and more. 760-636-7957. 

•  JOHN STANLEY KINGS SHOW/ Every Fri.  at VICKY’S OF SANTA FE, 8PM - 11:59 PM; 45100 Club Dr., Indian Wells. The Music Lounge at Vicky’s is flanked by dual fireplaces and centered with a 9-foot concert grand piano and built-in dance floor. Food and Cocktail Service at all times. No reservations. Open seating. No covers.  The John Stanley King Show! Every Fri | 8 PM to Midnight |No Cover. Kick it up on the floor or just listen in to good music.
